Frequently Asked Questions
What's the golf experience like at Kandy's only course, and is it worth the journey?
You're in for a treat at Victoria Golf & Country Resort. This course is truly stunning, carved into a hillside overlooking the Victoria Reservoir, offering incredible views on almost every hole. It's a challenging but fair layout, and the elevation changes make for some memorable shots you won't find just anywhere. We think it's absolutely worth the journey for the unique scenery and excellent conditions.
When is the best time of year to visit Kandy for a golf trip, avoiding bad weather?
We highly recommend visiting between December and April. During these months, Kandy experiences its dry season, meaning you'll enjoy plenty of sunshine and comfortable temperatures perfect for a round. Avoid the monsoon seasons from May to July and October to November, when heavy rains can make play less enjoyable.
Since Kandy only has one golf course, what other unique cultural or scenic attractions should we explore?
Kandy is rich in culture, so don't just come for the golf. You must visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, a truly significant site, and take a stroll around Kandy Lake. We also suggest a day trip to a nearby tea plantation; seeing how Ceylon tea is made is a fascinating experience and offers stunning views.
How challenging is it to get to the Victoria Golf & Country Resort from Kandy city, and what's the best way to travel?
The course is about an hour's drive from Kandy city, and the roads can be winding, but it's a scenic journey. We recommend hiring a private car with a driver for the day; it's the most comfortable and reliable option. Tuk-tuks are available but might be a bit long for that distance, especially with clubs.
What should I budget for a round of golf at Kandy's course, including any hidden costs?
Expect green fees to be in the range of $80-120 USD, which is quite reasonable for a course of this caliber. You'll definitely want to factor in a caddy fee - they're invaluable for navigating the course - and consider club rental if you're not bringing your own. Transport to and from the course will be your other main expense.
