Shipyard Golf Club
Frequently Asked Questions
Which of Shipyard's three nines should I play, and what makes them different?
You've got three distinct nines at Shipyard-Galleon, Clipper, and Brigantine. We find Galleon and Brigantine offer the most compelling golf, with Brigantine often feeling a bit more secluded and challenging with its tighter tree lines. Clipper is a solid third, but if you're looking for the best two, pair Galleon and Brigantine for a great 18.
When is the best time to visit Shipyard Golf Club for ideal playing conditions and fewer crowds?
We always recommend visiting Shipyard in the spring or fall-think April-May or September-October. The weather is absolutely perfect then, and you'll avoid the peak summer vacation rush and the island's busiest times. You'll find the course in prime condition and enjoy a much more relaxed pace of play.
What level of golfer is Shipyard Golf Club best suited for, and how challenging is it?
Shipyard is genuinely welcoming for all skill levels, which is a big part of its charm as a resort course. While it's not overly punishing, you'll still face some strategic challenges, especially with water hazards on nearly every hole. It's a fair test that allows you to score if you play smart, but it won't beat you up.
What kind of unique scenery and wildlife can I expect to see at Shipyard Golf Club?
You're in for a real Lowcountry treat at Shipyard, with its beautiful lagoons and mature live oaks draped in Spanish moss. Keep your eyes peeled for alligators sunning themselves near the water hazards-they're a common sight and add to the unique Hilton Head experience. It's a very scenic round, especially on the back nine of Brigantine.
How does the overall value and experience at Shipyard Golf Club compare to other courses on Hilton Head Island?
Shipyard offers excellent value, especially when you consider the quality of the course and its prime Hilton Head location. It's a consistently well-maintained track that delivers a solid resort golf experience without the premium price tag of some of the island's more famous neighbors. We think it's a fantastic choice for a vacation round where you want good golf and a relaxed atmosphere.
