Frequently Asked Questions
When is the best time of year to play Prairie Trails, and what should I expect from the weather?
We love Prairie Trails in late spring or early fall. You'll find the prairie grasses are at their most vibrant, and while the wind is always a factor here, it's usually less biting than in winter and more manageable than the summer gusts. Always check the forecast for wind speeds-they can dramatically change your club selection.
What's the unique character of Prairie Trails, and what's the biggest challenge I'll face on the course?
Prairie Trails truly embraces its name, offering a genuine prairie links experience with wide-open spaces and natural contours. The biggest challenge, hands down, is managing your approach shots into the elevated greens, especially when the wind is up-you'll need to think creatively about your trajectory and run-out.
Is Prairie Trails a good value, and what should I budget for a round?
We consider Prairie Trails an excellent value for the quality of golf you get. Expect green fees to be moderately priced, typically in the $75-$125 range depending on the season and time of day, which is a steal for a course with this much character and challenge. Factor in a little extra for range balls; their practice facility is solid.
Can I easily walk Prairie Trails, or should I plan on taking a cart?
While the course is spread out, we highly recommend walking Prairie Trails if your legs are up for it-it's the best way to truly appreciate the natural landscape. The distances between some greens and tees are a bit of a trek, but the paths are well-maintained, and the views are absolutely worth the effort. A cart is fine if you prefer, but you'll miss some of the subtle beauty.
What's the clubhouse experience like at Prairie Trails, and what should I do after my round?
The clubhouse at Prairie Trails is refreshingly unpretentious, offering a comfortable spot to unwind. We always grab a local craft beer and a burger at 'The 19th Hole' grill-their patio has fantastic views of the finishing holes, perfect for reliving your best shots. It's a great place to soak in the prairie sunset after a challenging round.
