Frequently Asked Questions
How easy is it to get to Harborside International from downtown Chicago, and is it worth the trip?
It's surprisingly quick, usually a 20-30 minute drive south of the Loop, depending on traffic. We think it's absolutely worth the short journey; you'll feel miles away from the city once you're on the course, enjoying those wide-open, links-style views.
With two courses, Starboard and Port, which one should I play at Harborside, or should I try both?
If you only have time for one, we lean towards Starboard for its slightly more dramatic bunkering and water features, offering a true test. However, Port is fantastic too, often feeling a bit more open and forgiving off the tee, making it a great choice for a second round or if you prefer a slightly less penal experience.
Harborside is often called "links-style" - how authentic is that experience, especially with the wind?
It truly delivers on the links promise, especially when the wind whips off Lake Michigan, which it often does. You'll need to master the bump-and-run and control your trajectory, making it a fantastic test of traditional links golf strategy right here in the Midwest.
When is the best time of year to play Harborside International to get the most out of the experience?
We highly recommend late spring or early fall. The temperatures are usually ideal, and while the wind is always a factor, it tends to be less brutally cold than in early spring or late fall. You'll avoid the peak summer heat and enjoy the course in prime condition.
Considering its reputation, is Harborside International a good value for the green fee, and what amenities should I expect?
We absolutely think it's a great value, especially for a course of this caliber so close to a major city. You're paying for a top-tier, unique golf experience with excellent conditioning and a massive, well-maintained practice facility, not necessarily a luxurious clubhouse, so set your expectations there.
