Princeville Golf Club - Prince Course
Frequently Asked Questions
What made the Prince Course so legendary, and can I still play it today?
The Prince Course was truly a beast, renowned for its dramatic elevation changes, challenging jungle-lined fairways, and those absolutely breathtaking ocean views, especially on the back nine. It demanded precision and strategic play, a real test of your golf game. Unfortunately, the Prince Course has been closed for several years and is not currently available for play, undergoing extensive redevelopment.
What was the signature hole or most memorable stretch of holes on the Prince Course?
Without a doubt, the stretch from holes 12 through 15 was unforgettable. The par-3 13th, in particular, offered a stunning downhill shot over a ravine to a green framed by the Pacific Ocean - it was pure Kauai magic. You truly felt immersed in the island's wild, untamed beauty on those holes.
How challenging was the Prince Course for an average golfer, and what should I have known before playing?
Let's be direct - the Prince Course was notoriously difficult, even for seasoned players. Its narrow fairways, dense jungle rough, and significant elevation changes meant you absolutely needed your A-game and probably a few extra balls. We always recommended playing from a forward tee to truly enjoy the incredible scenery without getting too frustrated by the score.
What was the best time of year to play the Prince Course for optimal conditions and those famous views?
For the best weather and most spectacular views, we always suggested visiting during Kauai's drier months, typically from April to October. You'd get less rain, more sunshine to illuminate those incredible ocean vistas, and generally calmer winds. Early morning tee times were also a must to beat the heat and catch the course in its pristine, dewy glory.
What kind of overall experience and amenities could you expect at Princeville Golf Club when playing the Prince Course?
When it was open, the Prince Course offered a premium golf experience, complete with a well-appointed pro shop and excellent practice facilities. You could expect top-notch service and a sense of exclusivity, fitting for a course consistently ranked among the world's best. While the Prince is closed, the Makai Course at Princeville still offers a fantastic, playable experience in the area.
