Frequently Asked Questions

Is Los Alamos County a good destination for a dedicated golf trip?

Given there's only one course, Los Alamos County isn't your typical multi-day golf destination. We recommend it more as a fantastic add-on if you're already in the area for the history, science, or stunning mountain scenery. You'll find a solid round, but don't expect a week-long golf marathon.

When is the best time of year to play golf in Los Alamos?

We've found late spring through early fall offers the most pleasant conditions, typically May through October. The high desert elevation means comfortable summer temperatures, but be prepared for afternoon thunderstorms during monsoon season in July and August.

What's unique about playing golf at the Los Alamos Golf Course?

The views are absolutely spectacular, with panoramic vistas of the Jemez Mountains and the Rio Grande Valley. You'll also notice the ball flies a bit further here due to the high elevation, which is a fun bonus for your drives.

What should we do in Los Alamos County when we're not on the course?

Los Alamos is rich in history and outdoor activities. We highly recommend visiting the Bradbury Science Museum and exploring the Manhattan Project National Historical Park, or hiking in the nearby Bandelier National Monument for incredible ancient cliff dwellings.

Is it easy to get a tee time at Los Alamos Golf Course, and what should we expect for costs?

Generally, it's quite easy to book a tee time, especially on weekdays, but weekends can fill up with locals. Greens fees are very reasonable, offering excellent value for a course with such unique views and conditions.
